Every Saturday in July the Farmer’s Market will be held on N. Market Street between the Heritage Center and Elderly United buildings;   All local food grown in Ohio.  9am – 1pm   Call Gene Barnett for more information, 937.536.9408

Summer Arts Festival will be held from June 18 to July 18. The events take place at Veteran’s Park Amphitheater, 250 Cliff Park Road, Springfield.  Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating under the stars. 1-31  Aug   Downtown Sounds:  Good food, good music, beautiful weather and fun is the combination on the City Hall Plaza.  Downtown Sounds returns for the summer beginning June 10 and continuing through August.  This is a free program designed to showcase downtown amenities and downtown businesses and will run from 11:30am to 1pm each Wednesday on the downtown plaza next to city hall.

1 Jul – 31 Dec - “112 Years and Counting: The History of the Clark County Historical Society” is outside the Crabill Discovery Hall.  The exhibit  looks at how the historical society has changed over time and  highlights its collections, the different venues where it has been, and looks at the move to the Heritage Center. 1 Jul-8 Aug    Julia McLemore:  Held 9 am to 5 pm at the Springfield Museum of Art.  The New Botanicals:  Reminiscent of the photogram, these “photographs” are made outside of the camera. These oversized, stunning floras depict a new generation of botanical prints. Their color, texture and sense of the interior space of plants give the viewer a new way to look at flora.

1 – 25  Garden Tour, Celebrating Nature.  Westcott House, 10am.  Join us for our Garden Tour and learn about the restored landscape and the inspirations that shaped Wright’s respect for the nature.

3-5 Young’s BBQ Weekend   Come celebrate small towns and the big taste of BBQ this Independence Day weekend at Young’s. The Dairy Store & Golden Jersey Inn will both feature great BBQ specials on our menus.

4 – 29 Aug   Upper Valley Mall Summer Concert Series.  Come out to the Upper Valley Mall on Saturday evenings in July and August from 6pm – 8pm to hear your favorite local performers and bands!  The mall will be hosting a variety of local bands and musicians performing a wide variety of music.  Take a break from the hot summer weather and relax to some music.  Questions, please contact Carla Miller at the Upper Valley Mall office, 937.329.8000.  

8   Summer Walking Tour  - Downtown as a Work of Art, 6 pm.  At the end of the 19th century, local leaders understood that great architecture was part of their civic duty.  Tour through Springfield’s Golden Age of architecture.  Meet in the Esplanade at the corner of High and Fountain.  Presented by Teresa Demana.  Rain date, July 15 at 6 pm.

9-12   The Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse will perform a new action-adventure musical called “007–A Price to Pay” on two consecutive weekends during the summer of 2009.  Directed by John Fleming and written by YSKP alum, Daniel Malarkey, the musical is set in the 1930s in pre-war Europe. Two teenage boys join a group of thieves with connections to SPECTRE. Success, however, does not come without a price — a price to pay.

11   Summer Walking Tour – Downtown Modern, 10 am.  In the 1960s and 70s, a new vision for a vibrant downtown materialized through a series of structures that remain today as an enduring imprint of the modern era in Springfield.  Meet outside 1 South Limestone Street.  Presented by Alan Ladd and Jake Studebaker.  Rain date, July 12 at 1 pm.

12   Young’s Jersey presents Dayton Corvette Cruise-In.  2009 Biannual All Corvette Cruise-in, 10am – 2pm.   Some 70 Corvette owners joined the Greater Dayton Corvette Club for this cruise-in in 2007,  we hope that many more of you will join us this year. Young’s will provide all participants with certificates for food and fun. This is a great opportunity for Covetters to meet and greet, and to experience one of the most visited venues in Ohio (if you haven’t been at Young’s before).

13-17  Clark County Public Library  Harry Potter Matinee Showings Get ready for the latest Harry Potter release by joining us for a preview of the first 5 movies. Monday: The Sorcerer’s Stone, rated PG. Tuesday: The Chamber of Secrets, rated PG. Wednesday: The Prisoner of Azkaban, rated PG-13. Thursday: The Goblet of Fire, rated PG-13. Friday: The Order of the Phoenix, rated PG-13. Door prizes will be given to any muggle that attends, while supplies last.  2 pm-5pm daily.

14 Clark County Public Library Southern Village “Trash Can” Village Have a blast making an instrument from recycled items. Play your “new” instrument in our library band led by local musicians. Time: 6:30 pm -7:30 pm.

16 Clark County Public Library Fabric and Pearl Bead Necklace  Beginning at 6:30 pm all supplies will be provided to make a beautiful, hand-made necklace to take home. Stop by Houston’s circulation desk to see the sample on display. Adults, bring your teens along, if you’d like.

16 Clark County Public Library Family Game Night   Hey kids! Take your parents to the library for a fun, free night of family games! We will bring out the Wii for some gaming fun on our big screen, and you can bring your favorite board games, too! Snacks and drinks will be provided. For families of all ages. 17   3rd Friday Fling in the Springs:  Kickoff to Summer in the Springs.  Explore our distinctive shops, galleries and restaurants, many are open until 9pm or later.  Music, wine-tasting at the Emporium, light bites at Village Arisans.  

17-18-19   PT Cruiser Car Show:  Young’s Jersey Dairy, 6880 Springfield-Xenia Rd (SR-68), Yellow Springs, Oh.  The first 200 PTs registered will receive dash plaque and decal awards, show-n-glow and car show door prizes – trophy – t-shirt – DJ both days.

18   Summer Walking Tour – Historic East High:  Westcott Era, 10 am.  Building on Springfield’s 19th century industrial success, a new generation of entrepreneurs refocused and reinvigorated the local economy well into the 20th century, making this community an exciting and vibrant place to live.  Meet outside the Greek Orthodox Church at 1127 E. High Street.  Presented by John and Suzanne Turner.  Rain date, July 19 at 1 pm.

21 Clark County Public Library Whimsical Wind chimes and Whirligigs  Create a recycled wacky what-not for summer! Join the fun in making a whimsical wind chime or whirly whirligig for your yard or garden.  At the Southern Village Branch from 2pm - 3pm.

22   Summer Walking Tour – Beat the Block, 6 pm.  In the 1940s and 50s, locals “Beat the Block” shopping their way around the downtown core.  Meet outside the Heritage Center’s east entrance, 117 S. Fountain Avenue.  Presented by Ski and Cheryl Schanher.  Rain date, July 29 at 6 pm.

25   Summer Walking Tour – Ferncliff Cemetery, 10 am.  Covering over 240 acres of rolling hills and pastoral landscape, the cemetery was platted during the Civil War as Springfield’s new burial ground.  Meet at the Ferncliff Cemetery Chapel at 501 West McCreight Avenue.  Presented by Charles Swaney.  Rain date July 26 at 1 pm.  

25-26   7th Annual Young’s Charity Bike Tour:  One & two day ride options, benefits 4 charities.  We have four different routes this year - depending on how far you want to go. Ride starts at 8am Saturday. Check-in and registration opens at 7am at the picnic shelters at Young’s Jersey Dairy.  Please arrive at least 45 minutes early to allow time for registration and a continental breakfast so we can all start at the same time. 29 Clark County Public Library Candy Creations Mary Lou Kittles will show you how to make versions of your favorite candy, including Reese’s Cups, Heath Bars, Nestle Crunch Bars, and Girl Scout Cookies, in this free demonstration! 30  Lunch on the Lawn, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.  Join us once again this year as The Springfield Symphony Orchestra presents a youth orientated concerts held on the front lawn of the Springfield Museum of Art during the noon lunch hour. An outdoor tent will be provided for shade, and in case of rain the performances will move inside the Museum. Admission to each performance is free. A special sack lunch will be available for $6.00 (with beverage) while they last.

30   Clark County Public Library Resume Writing Workshop Learn how to create a well-designed and effective resume, or improve your existing resume, during this free workshop!
